deer hides

Anybody know of a fur buyer in the Des Moines area that is taking deer hides? They are usually only worth 5-10 bucks, but I would rather see them go somewhere to be used.
 
you could also check with taxidermists, and see if they are buying hides. you might freeze your hides for a couple weeks, fur buyers will be opening up soon, as trapping season starts in a couple weeks.
i thought there was an organization that took hides, tanned them, and gave them to veterans hospitals/homes, for residents to make and sell crafts of. anybody heard of that, or know where to take the hides?

You are on target, somewhere within the last year I read about some place that took deer hides and processed them for veterns hospitals for craft projects. For the life of me I can't think were I read that at.
 
I do know that the local elks lodge is excepting deer hides. Like stated before they tan them and then give them to the veterans hospitals.
