Des Moines Boy Injured Sunday While Hunting Deer
WINTERSET - An 11-year-old Des Moines boy suffered a foot injury Sunday evening while hunting deer southwest of Winterset.
Maxwell James Birmingham was hunting deer during the youth season with his grandfather, Harold Birmingham, also of Des Moines, when the muzzleloader rifle discharged hitting him in the foot. He was sitting on the ground when the incident happened at approximately 6 p.m. Sunday.
Birmingham was taken to the Madison County Memorial Hospital in Winterset then transferred to Blank Children's Hospital in Des Moines.
His injuries were not considered to be life threatening.
