In Novemeber of 1981, at the ripe old age of 16, I killed my second deer on the opening day of Missouri's rifle season. It had a four point rack, still in velvet. My dad and I got a HUGE suprise as we rolled this critter over to start the field dressing chores.
The deer was a doe, with the normal genitals of a female deer. The only difference was the not so attractive set of antlers. One large velvet spike and a small fork with brow tines on the other side. I had a tag for only an antlered deer, so no problems encountered at the check station. I'll dig out the old photographs (we took many) and have them posted.
Yes, female deer can grow antlers!
