Muscatine Teenager Injured While Hunting Saturday

CONESVILLE - A Muscatine teenager received minor injuries Saturday morning while duck hunting in Louisa County.

Nicholas Wilson, 17, was hit by a shotgun pellet in his lip and one pellet in his neck while hunting at Cone Marsh shortly after 7 a.m. on Saturday. He was taken by private vehicle to Trinity Hospital in Muscatine where he was treated and released.

The incident happened when hunters in another group were shooting at flying ducks and the pellets hit Wilson. It is unknown who fired the shot resulting in the pellets striking Wilson.

DNR Conservation Officer Tom Campbell said it was fortunate that this incident did not result in more serious injuries and underscores the importance of safety while hunting.

"Hunters need to be sure of what is behind their target before firing and should know where other hunters are located in the field," said Campbell.

That is fustrating to hear!! People need to pay more attention and watch where they are shooting!

That's happened to use before but it was because we were pulling all the ducks where we hunt. At that time our DNR didn't want to lift a finger to help. Since then we've gotten new DNR and they are a lot better.
