Heres a couple of mounts I did. The first one was for my cousins duaghters buck from last year and the other is one I did for a guy at work. I fabricated the plaques from slabs of walnut because I didn't want to go with the store bought ones .

I'd like to do a euro mount sometime. I'm assuming you just skin the head out as best you can and then boil it until it's clean?

I like the way they look on the walnut slabs. I assume you just sand the slabs and give them a polyurethane finish.

What about attachment to the wood slabs?

Looks like a wood screw?

Nice work!

Thanks everyone.
Ghost, That would be pretty much correct. I pre drilled all the holes before attaching it together. I use three wood screws in a triangle to prevent any movement. I had done a few before with the store bought pedestals but now that Iv'e done these I've got people offering to give me walnut slabs so I'll probably do the walnut from now on.

What do you put on the walnut pieces for the shine? How do you keep the slabs from splitting too? They look darn good though.

those mounts look great.
I have been staring at the deer in the top pic and cannot figure what that is on his side,

are those injuries, or just blotches in the picture, maybey something else?

Fulldrw- To answer your questoin about the finish, Yes I just sanded it smooth and used a polyeurethane to coat it with, i never thought about it splitting except when I screwed it together, but thats why I pre dreilled everything.
BB - That pic does look kind of odd but I'm pretty sure the hair is just messed up from strapping the deer to a cart to haul it out of the timber.
