Fawn Survival

There has been a set of triplets that live in an abandoned grove across the road from my place. Last night, on July 5, the mother of these fawns was hit by a car. What is the chance of the fawns survival? How old would a fawn have to be to survive without the mother?

i would say if it still has spots, its not gonna make it without momma

It depends on their age. Early fawns may have developed digestive tracts that can breakdown food items. But at this date I don't think they'll make it.

Pretty good chance of them making it if there are other deer in the area. Fawns at that age will fall in with other groups of deer.

We had the same thing happen a few years ago and the orphans were quickly adopted by another doe.
I hope that happened in this case,as well.
