I finally filled my buck tag on november 7th. I've been hunting hard for a while and it sure feels good to put my tag on some horns! Heres the story.
My camara man and i met on the property we were hunting around 5:40. Our tree stand was in a large funnel with a big pasture to our west and a hay field to our east. We were in the tree and set up at 6:00 so we settled in and waited for first light. At about 7 we saw our first deer, it was a doe being chased by a small buck. After that 4 different bucks follow that hot does trail.
At about 8:10 we saw our first decent buck. He was a young 5 by 6 that would probably score in the 140s. My camara man was videoing him when Looked back into the pasture. I saw a good buck crusing acrossed it. I glassed him and decided I wanted to take him.
We started rattling and he came straight to us. He crossed the fence and walked by a 15 yards, but because of poor shooting lanes I didnt have a shot. He kepted walking and wasnt responding to grunting so when he was 50 yards away i snort weezed at him. He circled around and came back in. He walked by at about 20 yards but there was to much brush for a good shot. I waited till he was in an openig, about to cross the creek. I mouth bleated at him to stop him, settled the pin and squeezed my release.
After the shot he jumped the creek and stood there for a while. Soon he bedded down, but he got up about 5 minutes later. He walked about 30 yards and bedded down again. He kept doing this untill he was out of sight.
We decided to back out and come back around 12:00. We ended up finding him about 175 yards away. He had some ground shrinkage but hes still a good mature buck and im happy with him. We rough scored him around 144 gross. Im going to keep hitting it hard trying to fill my land owner tag now. Thanks for reading and good luck to everyone that still have tags!:way:
