From the Iowa DNR:
Fish Kill Near Garnavillo Being Investigated by DNR
Posted: June 30, 2009
GARNAVILLO - A fish kill on Buck Creek approximately one mile northwest of Garnavillo in Clayton County was investigated by the DNR during the weekend.
The fish kill was reported on Saturday at a county park. The DNR did find dead fish including trout. During a subsequent visit to the area on Sunday, a DNR environmental specialist did find a place where there appeared to be a chemical spill into the stream and an open cattle lot where manure may have entered the creek. Water and soil samples were taken and have been sent to a laboratory for analysis.
Approximately three to four miles of stream appeared to have been impacted.
Investigation of the fish kill is continuing. DNR biologists are conducting a count of the dead fish.
