Critr is dead on. Just like anything else, start with the fundamentals. A lot of the "gimmicky" items are for guys that have hunted for years and need that one more thing to try out. I learned the sport on my own. My dad took me bird hunting a lot as a kid, but never hunted deer, and never had a bow. Time spent in the tree is like time in the classroom. You will learn every minute out there. Don't try to eat the whole steak at once, take one bite at a time. Sorry, cheesy line from an old boss I had, but it makes sense. There are a lot of guys on this site with way more knowledge than I have. That's why I read posts. Always learning and I've been chasing deer with a bow for 13 years now.
