Illegal ATV usage

This post is both a vent for me and also I am seeking advice.Saturday evening I set up on public (polk County Army corp land managed by DNR).Just as prime time was setting in ,here comes the 4 wheelers yelling and screaming and driving right through our area.I later found out that they had driven right in front of my son in his ground blind. They even drove up to another guy in a tree stand and yelled Aye,Aye captain.I was going to call Kirby Bragg but somehow I had lost his number.I realize that this is a risk when you hunt public ,but it is illegal for them to be in there.Does anyone have any suggestions on how to cure this ?

Contact every law officer who has jurisdiction in that area and express your feelings. Let each officer know you have contacted the other officers also.

Unfortunately guys like this can be hard to catch. I had to deal with a similar situation for the last two years. It seems to finally be resolved. It took county officers, a federal game officer, and a couple DNR officers to finally get rid of these $#%^# h#@&s. The ATV fine was not enough. They had to write multiple tickets and also for multiple reasons such as destruction of ground etc.

I could offer some alternate suggestions, but the above would be the appropriate way to get it done.

Good luck.

While hunting private ground that we had permission to hunt Sunday morning, my step son avidhunter and I had a similar experience.

This guy (another bow hunter) drives his pickup in the picked corn field and CRP ground where we are hunting. He drives all over, gunning his engine, cutting donuts in the field, etc. He was obviously trying to ruin or hunt. He did.

I was very unhappy about his behavior so I went to the road and stood by my pickup to wait for him. When he came back up the road he never stopped to talk, in fact he didnt even look at me as he drove by.

I would have thought that if he had something to say he would have stopped for a chat? Perhaps he could see the expression on my face under my camo face mask?

Iowa has a "Hunter harassment" law that reads "No one may intentionally obstruct the participation of another in the lawful activity of hunting, fishing or trapping." (Full text on page 11 of the 2004 Iowa Hunting, Fishing and Trapping Regulations booklet.)

Get as much information as possible and report it to your local conservation officer or other law enforcement agency. If you have a camcorder tape the incident.

It may end up being your word against theirs, so any documentation (especially pictures/video) is essential.

Thanks Doug for posting on this subject. I was aware of the Hunter Harassment Law that the State of Iowa has on its books.

However, I hate to start turning other bow hunters to law enforcement and having more hard feelings. I would rather have worked it out with this guy.

But I will take your advice if there is a second incident.

Thanks Again!
