Important reminder!!!!

Take 10 minutes this summer to tighten bolts, screws, whatever is on your treestands. Basically, just give your attention to them for a few minutes to make sure there are not any safety issues.

I have neglected a couple of stands for a few years and almost paid the price with a 30 foot fall sunday. The cable attachment on one of my metal King kong gorillas had rusted out and snapped. I caught my balance and fortunately the other cable did not break and held me up.

It was admittedly my own fault as I left the stand out in the elements a few to many years and probably didn't pull it at all a few seasons.

Gorilla sent me replacements for free!

My fiskars pull trimmer blade busted, they replaced that free as well!

Good companys!

Hope everyone is getting ready to roll for the 06 seasons!

Good post DOR - we can all use a gentle reminder once in a while and glad your luck has not yet run out. Thanks

Thanks for the reminder. You should also be careful stepping on any tree-steps that have been left in the tree as well. A buddy of mine fell 26 feet after one of the steps that had been in the tree a couple of years snapped off as he stepped on it. He almost died and has been through multiple surgeries. This was 2 years ago and he still can't pull a bow back. I will check all of my stands this weekend. I'm glad to hear you were able to avoid a fall. 30 feet is a long way up !!

P.S. - Does anyone use a safety belt while climbing up/down a tree to get into/out of a pre-hung stand ? Do you use a safety belt while hanging a stand ? It seems like it could get in the way and may actually do more harm than good 9at least the one I use). If you do use a safety belt every time you climb a tree, which one do you use and is it easy to climb up and down with ?

I use the Hunter Safety System vest and Linemans belt. It works great!

But if you purchase the HSS vest and belt make SURE to buy the 2006 model.

I use alot of prehung stands and they all come with some cheap harness. I usually hang the included tree strap when I hang the stand and leave it there permenantly. Then I hook my harness to it before I step onto the platform and while I hook up my good tree strap. That is the best system I have come up with and makes me alot less nervous 25' up in the dark. Also comes in handy in case you forget your regular tree strap/rope, which I have been known to do.
