Injured Buck

There is a buck I have been chasing for 4 seasons now with no luck. Last year he was shot in the hindquarter during shotgun season on a neighboring farm, but was never recovered by the hunter.

Here is my question; if he is still alive this year will his rack be affected by the gunshot wound? I have heard stories that if a buck is injured on the right side his left side rack will be effected and vise versa.

Often it will depend on whether or not the bone was injured. I have a buck that had been slammed by a car a few years before I shot him in which his leg had been broken and healed. It did mess up his rack a bit. I have also seen bucks that had been hit in the legs, front or back and have essentially normal racks. I guess the only good that could become of this assuming the deer indeed survived would be a nice drop tine or tines adding to the unique nature of your deer..
