Quick question for you Iowa guys, coming to bow hunt the first 15 days of Nov. in Ringgold County.

The ground I have to hunt consist of wood lots surronded by corn and beans, not alot of timber some fence rows, ditches ect.

I am from NW Missouri and use to hunting bigger timber. Any adive on how you guys hunt this type of terrain would be useful.

Tacoma I too come from a block timber state where it can be difficult to pattern deer. In Iowa find cover and you find the deer. The deer will use the timber you have to hunt for security and transition to the feeding area.

Ground blinds and decoys can work great in the fencelines and more open areas. Spend a couple days watching from a distance how deer are traveling throughout the area and then set a ground blind to capitalize on those travel patterns. The deer quickly become use to the blind. Through in a Boss buck decoy with some tarsal scent and a bedded doe decoy with estrus scent and buckle your seat belt.......rattle/grunt to get the attention of a distant buck. Although many people hate the confinement of the blind, I found it to be some of the most exciting type of hunting ever........good luck.....take a video camera and tape all of the smaller bucks reacting to the decoy set-up.

Tacoma,
What I have noticed hunting in Taylor County (ZONE 4) is to stick to the timber during the rut. However, if you are not able to get into a thick timber setup, then setting up near corners of fields and woods will due just fine. The main idea is to get in between the deers bedroom and kitchen. Try to find a main travel corridor and wait for some good action.
