From the IDNR KEOKUK * The cases of two Keokuk men charged with unlawful possession of whitetail deer concluded with both men being found guilty. Jeffrey R. Dahl, 42, was found guilty on May 16. James T. Vandenberg, 41, pleaded guilty on June 28. Both me were ordered to pay a $100 fine, $162 in court costs, and a $2,000 civil penalty. They were each required to perform 80 hours of community service by June 1, 2007. The men were charged in December with using landowner deer tags on deer harvested within the city limits of Keokuk. The men had been under surveillance by DNR officers after information was provided by the Turn In Poachers (TIP) Hotline in December 2004.
The DNR seized antlers from three whitetail bucks and three compound bows as a result of the investigation.
