Killing grass in tree planting

Is it too late to kill grass in tree rows
If not to use

Clethodim I would think. This was my plan for my plantings but I got broadleaf problems now, was sure I'd be to my neck in grass

Can you mow it first? Then use clethodim.

Yes I can mow first. I need to plant more trees for my crp contract. Was trying to get a head start for either a fall or spring planting
