i went out saturday night and jumped 2 does and this buck near my blind. i shot him at around 110 yards broadside then gave him about 45 minutes and went and looked for blood. i followed the blood till dark and decided to come back in the morning and continue the trail. the next morning my dad and i went hiked back to where i had stopped trailing and picked up his trail again, but it was tough because it had snowed a couple of inches over night. we came to where he had bedded 5 times all within 50 yards, but after the last bed we couldnt find any more blood. the deer backtracked down the same trail he came up on, and we found him near the bottom of the ridge!
except now we had to drag him a mile through really deep drifted cornfields just to get him to a road where we could come pick him up. it was a very challenging hunt and really wore both my dad and me out, but i think it was worth it and i am very proud of my first muzzleloader deer!
