Government agency inefficiencies never disappoint. Just called and they told me that CRP rental payments have "pretty much" been approved so we should see payments in 1-2 weeks.

Anyone else hearing the same?

I'm hoping to get 20'ish acres into CRP & called yesterday to see what the process was & when I should start. They implied due to the shutdown that they weren't sure when that may/may not happen. Anybody else running into the same situation?

Some of that may be more related to what type of program you are looking at, whether continuous of general types of CRP. I’m not sure they are even taking requests for continuous practices right now.

Not sure there is a signup of any kind right now. All the offices seem way behind on the work they have. Seems to me CRP of any kind is not a priority right now with this administration.

I have been trying to get more in. We bought it in 2016 so it wasn't reported until 2017 crop year. Since we have not had a new farm bill since 2018, we can't do anything. What complete dysfunction our government continues to be.

We've been trying to get 15 acres enrolled but it doesn't have the cropping history under the "current" 2018 farm bill...major bummer to continue to see "extensions" instead of an updated FB. Great example of how worthless our gov has become.

The dumb cropping history rule ! If you had 4 out of 6 (key word — 4 out of the last 6 previous years ) wouldn’t that make sense ?

It’s too bad an organization of experienced habitat managers couldn’t help make decisions on this . I realize Pheasants Forever & DU have seats at the table , but some of these politicians have zero knowledge of how & why these programs operate & how much easier it could be with less restrictions/red tape.

So back when I first bought my place, the neighbor was farming WAY over the property line. He never "declared" my acres because he "didnt know they werent his"... so when I finally got the boundary lines all squared away, I got told- nope, no farming history.... I kept it in CRP for 2 years then bought out my contract when the agent drove across my food plot (not in the program) to look at my CRP and verify it was still there, and then drove out a different track. So he ran over a large chunk of my food plot... I had it all on cameras....I unloaded on them, told them to never step foot here again without at least a heads up. So I still have CRP, just not in the actual program due to that crap...

@Hardwood11 the verbiage is something like "4 out of 6 years" within the years defined in each Farm Bill. I believe we have 8 or 9 years of cropping history now, but because only the first 2 or 3 of those years were the only ones defined in the 2018 FB, we do not qualify until a new FB or extended FB that also changes the years. Technicality BS but that's how the FB is written and interpreted.

I know … typical government . Riparian buffer with trees is actually a great CRP program and can be put into a pasture with no cropping history …if it borders a creek .

The problem is they pay $75-85 an acre. Jump that $150 & you would see this take off. Those trees would likely be there forever !

Plus most of the cost of the trees/planting are covered .
