Lets see some mounts

So looking at the thread posted earlier about taxidermy opinions got me thinking about unique mounts. I love that new 8900 series from McKenzie that was posted with the extreme turn.

I have a couple handfuls of mounts, many of them done in semi-sneak or semi-upright poses. I also have 2 wall pedestals that I really like but wanted to see some finished work that you guys have that is unique from these poses.

So lets see them.

Which wall pedestals do you have? I'm getting my gun buck done in one with a Joe Meder form. Can't remember the # tho

This is the first archery buck I took off our IL farm from 2000. It is a Mckenzie form I just don't recall the series. I love the extra shoulder in this pedestal

Here is a shot from the side

Here is a Meder form pedestal. This is a 2003 buck, I like the standard Mckenzie form a bit better. This form is also in the lower right of the above pic

Here is about 80 percent of mine...

These are two mounts that I have built that are a little different than your everyday euro mount. Take a euro mount and cross it with a pedestal mount:

First one I built for Bowman13 who didn't want a shoulder mount, went 178"

Second one I just finished on my late muzzle buck. 141"

Both are on Eastern Red Cedar. Shoulder mounts aren't for everyone and they can often get pricy. I build these because I love woodwork, and it just gives another dimension to mount styles. I also build them so they can pivot on the table for different views and so the head is easily removable without compromising strength.

slabman,
That 8 is awesome! Do you know how old he is?

Yeah, I have a set of teeth I have collected over the years and compared to the ISU Animal Ecology lab sets, and he is either 7.5 or 8.5. Hard to tell but an older deer indeed. Posted the story earlier "New Year's Redemption". Super happy with him!

If you are looking for something a little (or a lot) different in a mount, come up with an idea & challenge your taxi to make it for you. I have done that with breiner11 & the some of the results are in his gallery. http://www.reinertsontaxidermy.com/ The mule deer/whitetail face-off & the soybean eating pedestal mount (my wife's) both reside in my "trophy room". Not the biggest deer in the world, but great memories & unique poses just the same. Anxious to see the current "work in progress" at the Iowa Taxidermy Assn. show in March (assuming he gets it finished by then

). It too will be some "different".

For reference, the forms in the pic below, left to right:

1) Semi Sneak, right turn
2) Full Sneak, left turn
3) Semi Upright, left turn
4) Full Sneak, right turn.
