Live hunt

Well I'm about to head out from work and get a new stand set up to hunt tonight. This will only be my second official evening hunt this year as I've been busy with my house project. I think I have an awesome location pinned down that deer like to use at night. With the weather being cold and getting colder I have a good feeling about today. I'll try to keep this updated as I am able.

Just got in and settled......kinda. for some reason this giant oak didn't look very big from a distance. I thought I would be able to get my straps around it. Nope. So I used what screw in steps I had and am up as far as I can be. Maybe I'll get lucky! I'm on a creek about 200 yards south of a timber area. Deer usually feed out of the timber and down the creek line. Have about it 10 turkeys out in the field now.

Good luck!!! I was hoping to be out but didn't have a good stand for a N wind and I wasn't going to push it with the 30 mph winds

First doe just came running out to the field. Good early start!

Hopefully if given the chance to shoot I'll get a calm period. I'm on the south side of the tree so the wind isn't bothering me for sitting.

I've seen about 12 so far. Nothing close but that's a good number regardless of distance. They need to realize the browsing is awesome down here about 20 yards from this tree!

No arrows flung. All told was probably 20 deer or so. Mostly does, two small bucks and Curly, my #1 came out just before dark. 60 yards was as close as he would come.

I saw one deer, was a good buck right at sunset he was 300yds out though. I think grain is king right now or if you could get in a bottom out of the wind.

When do you guys think mornings will quit being productive? After this weekend?

I don't know about mornings. I'll keep going until I tag out or shotgun 1 starts. I think of mornings just reverse of nights. Transition zone. They go from bed to food in the evening and from food to bed in the morning.

Yes, that is correct, but if they are back to bed earlier you either risk bumping them or just getting there late and seeing nothing if they have since already moved through. I too will continue hunting morning until shotgun season.
