Meet Lead Face #2

AIRASSAULT

PMA Member
It's about time I get around to posting this. I shot this guy at 43 yards 2nd day/my first morning of 4th season about 70 yards from where I've shot my last 4 turks. I don't know what it is about this spot, but, for some reason, the snurks really like it.. It's in about 3/4 of a mile of river bottom ground that I have permission to hunt, but is at the thinner part of it. Most all of the ground is timber down by the river. There are a lot of water pockets that surround it and the Cedar river is on one side and a small bluff and cornfield on the other. I walked in that morning at about 0500 to get to the tree I normally hunt. The water was up too much so I was going to set up on the edge of it. I owl hooted and had a lone tom answer me. I couldn't quite tell where it came from so I hooted again and he cut me off.. I still didn't know exaclty what direction it was, but I had a pretty good idea, being that there are about 4 different trees in a 100 yard diameter that they like to roost in. I chose to sneak up by a big sycamore that I've seen them roost in several times the last few years. I sat down about 70 yards away from it and could just start to make him out in the tree with my binos. I could tell he was facing the other way while perched and I knew there was a decent LZ on that side of the tree. I got up and snuck to my left to about 50 yards and set up. He triple and quadruple gobbled forever it seemed and he stayed up in the tree for along time.. Finally he flew down and landed about 50 yards away behind some trees. He gobbled and strutted and worked his way into about 43 yards before he stepped out from behind the trees and took a round of #6's to the face at about 0609.. I tagged him and walked him back to the truck and went back out to find some shrooms and ended up with 39 there and went to some public ground and totaled out the day at 83.

The turk weighed 25 lbs 11 oz, 1 1/4" spurs and 10" beard.
