Mineral Licks

This is a mineral lick mixture that I have recently started using, it is pretty awesome at how soon the deer start using it as well as the amount of usage. It is kind of a blend between the Beast Feast and Deer Cocaine, but it also contains high levels of Calcium, Phosphorus, and other vitamins and minerals which many of the on the shelf attractants don't contain, also it is much cheaper :way: The ingredients are in this order 2 50 # bags Free Choice Cattle mineral or Di/Cal mineral in this picture I have Big Red mineral (free choice) and Cargill Gold cattle mineral both of these are high in Calcium/ phoshorus, the gold mineral has more Magnesium, they are around 30 percent salt and have other vitamins and minerals. The next ingredient is 2 bags of powdered sugar, then 2 packages of baking soda- the main ingredient in deer cocaine, a jug of Blue Kool Aid powder-the true sugar kind, and two 50 pound bags of trace mineral or plain stock salt. Mix all these together, this should make about 6-10 licks, place around a stump near a food source or game trail and replenish every couple of Months early spring until fall.

Very nice! No molasses? Ok- please tell me how much u have into this? If possible- divide it out so u have a price for 50 pounds. OR just tell me total cost and how many pounds it is?? I like the idea and there's some cool stuff- with great benefits- u can do with mineral for deer. Thanks for posting- love to hear cost estimates!! Thanks

This whole mix cost about $50-$60, depending on what you add and prices, so it would be about $15 for 50 pounds, or if you did 10 separate 20 pound licks each would cost $6 for each.
The prices in my area for the trace mineral salt are around $6 per bag, the free choice mineral is about $12 per bag, I used the Cargill Gold mineral and it was a little higher at $18, the Di-Cal runs anywhere from $15-$25 here depending on where you buy it, and all the other ingredients combined are less than $10. There is some molasses in the free choice type minerals but not much. I have tried some cattle type licks with molasses in the spring/summer before and the deer just didn't seem to care for them. I have tried adding some brown sugar to the mix which would add some molasses flavor and it seemed about the same, the brown sugar will lump up and make harder to mix, would be better to add it or the molasses on after you poured the other out. I guess the main reason is the molasses is just plain messy.

I tried a few different molasses blocks and I will never use anything with molasses in it again. Not sure if it was just the stuff I was using but it literally ate a hole in the ground and created a wet soupy mess. Never had a deer touch the stuff. Friggun coon love it. And it stinks and looks like a cow pie after a few weeks...
