My guess would be good. I know the area only because my Grandfather farmed near Castana. I recall not too long ago, a group of gun hunters were in one of the magazines with a couple of nice ones from the same season. Good luck and welcome.

It is TERRIBLE! You should probably give up deer hunting.
Are you new to the area? You will soon find out the incredible potential for the area. You're in the heart of the Loess Hills, and have some incredible public land just minutes north of Turin.
I was born and raised in Monona Co. and still have tons of family in the area with lots of farm land loaded with great deer. I want to move back so bad I can't stand it, but circumstances won't allow it right now.

Welcome to Monona county. You are in the middle of some good hunting.Plenty of record book quailty deer around.Just need to find a place to put in some scouting time.Lot of public hunting near you. You should be able to find some good locations within 10 miles any direction! I even have a place or two in the area!!
Depends on how many big hills you want to climb!As you can tell from my handle i don't spend a lot of time in the hills.
I go north 30 miles North in Woodbury to hunt the hills. Down here they are as close to mountains as Iowa has!!!!
Now 20-25 years ago i would have been on top of all the hills looking down!Now i drive around looking and wonder what toke me so long to get here.

I hunt Woodbury, Monona and Harrison Co's every year. Private land is a must for a DECENT shot at a bigun. I played a few basketball games in Turin. Is it still East Monona school district? I've seen some nice deer on public, but it is always driving out after dark. They are smart.Seen incredible deer on private. One day I'll get a booner.( I've been close)
