Mountain lion spotted by Marengo??

Until I see the photo, I say this is pure rumor... but I was talking to a friend on Sat. and he knows someone who's trail cam snapped a mountain lion. So this is officially a friend of a friend report. My friend hasn't seen the trail cam photo either, so take this report with a tablespoon of salt.
 
Be sure to check the photo for the Iowa DNR ear tag.

After all, if the Iowa DNR had a secret puma stocking program going they would no doubt think to mark each specimen with a "giveaway" tag wouldn't they?
 
yes Daver, they are brought in with black trucks pulling black trailers, with men in black suits. the pumas are stocked because they are also stocking deer... at least that is what one crazy gentleman told me last year when i was walking out from the timber.
 
Naw, Muddy, the loins were definitely brought in by those silent black helicoptors.

Of course, the way to tell the difference between a mountain loin and a mountain lion is to look for the DNR brand that they put on the flanks of the loins!

probably the same trail cam pic we have all seen, with the lion beind the mule/blacktail deer. all you have to do, is slap a new town's name on it, and you will have people freaking out

Why does everyone get so freaked out by the mountain lion sightings. They are all over my old hunting grounds in Oklahoma. I have pictures if you would like to see them.
 
I think it is because everyone is use to not having any type of BIG predators in Iowa. The thought of a mountain lion roaming around freaks alot of people out because they read about the attacks and other stuff from out west.

Isn't it great.

Seems like I hear a mountain lion story once a week. Unless I see a hide or a black helicopter, I ain't believen' it.
 
I had to prod one off of the seat of my treestand the other night. Dang thing thought he was human. I told him I had a cold one in my truck and down the tree he went.

Not saying they are not here, talked to too many people that have witnessed their presence that are good for their word. Just not a time to get over excited about it.

Ya never know there may be one setting in the next tree over, but there aint anything anyone can do about it. If it turns out to be a problem, shoot it. Dont be dinner.
