Wow, what a morning. We went out Saturday morning and sat in our bow stands that were set up in a creek bottom funnel. I usually have good luck early season and during the rut in this location. Took my 12 year old out with my slug gun and waited for things to happen. 20 minutes in, a big doe walked in. He was shaking like a leaf and shot. 15 yards broadside and a complete whiff. I got down to be sure and nothing. While on the ground, I noticed more deer a few hundred yards away, heading in our direction. I got into the stand and told him to be ready. Another 1/2 hour went by and deer were around us. Big doe walked into the exact spot as the first deer. I looked at him and told him to only think about the targets he practiced on. He was solid this time and made a solid shot. Few inches back, but hit the liver. We waited until the area cleared of deer and found her 50 yards away. Couldn't be more proud. Had her butchered and in the freezer by 11 on opening day.
