FWIW, I have seen many young bucks at lockers in Solon (multiple times through the years), Washington(multiple times through the years), Newhall (multiple times through the years), Tiffin (Way back, no longer open, but multiple times) and Edgewood (Once, but I think I only went there once).
Almost all of my observations are now several years old though, as it has been 4'ish+ years since I was in a locker during a gun season, as I haven't shot any deer with a firearm in about 4-5 years now. Exception...I was in the Newhall locker in Dec. 2025, as I took some elk meat in to be processed, so I did see a pile of them then, FWIW.
So, I would say that it is, or has been, commonplace to see plenty of young bucks. While I have shot plenty of deer in Southern Iowa over the years, I have almost always brought them back up around my home, Iowa City, to have them processed, FWIW. Rough, rough guess, based on recollections from the past...30%-40% young bucks.

My anti non res thoughts have always been about access and not quality. Unfortunately some residents in this state would absolutely love it if a non resident came in and bought up all the surrounding ground in the area and only hunted every few years. Great for all the surrounding resident landowners that they financed a semi sanctuary for you!! My dad was a non resident, my best friend in the world is a non resident.. love them both.. Also know I could easily work and live in another state and more than likely make more money and enjoy what some could consider a higher quality of every day life than I currently have. Who honestly likes winter in Iowa after deer season ends?? Don’t fall for this crap! Non resident landowners don’t deserve a thing! They are here to rape our resources and nothing else! Vast majority would never step foot in the state if not for our deer. The good ones are the friends/family we know and not the norm. Don’t be fooled!
