Nebraska Cancels Paddlefish Season for Flooding
The Nebraska Games and Parks Commission has cancelled archery paddlefish season for 2011 because of Missouri River flooding.
The commission decided Friday that river conditions were too unsafe.
The season was to have started July 9 and run for 30 days. It's usually open along a 77-mile stretch of the river from Gavins Point Dam to the mouth of the Big Sioux River.
The commission will refund permit fees to 275 applicants awarded a permit in last month's drawing.
The Missouri River is rising because the corps is increasing the amount of water it releases from upstream reservoirs to deal with heavy rains and snowpack. The river is expected to remain high into fall.
