A friend of mine and his brother in law went out on a little shed hunt christmas day and found this. They couldn't tell what killed it.
Nice 12 pointer!!

That is one of those love and hate bucks. Love to find one like it, but hate to see that happen.

I hate to always be the bearer of bad news, but as I understand it because these were not sheds you need a tag of some kind on them, or you are in illegal possion of a trophy rack. If it scores over 150 the fines are major. Also the regulations say that it must be taged before it is moved in any way. I know that lots of people have picked these up in the past but you need to know that you risk a citation, a fine, and having the horns confiscated especially by putting pictures on the internet of the head without a tag. The DNR might issue a salvage tag but you have to contact them.

Found it in MN didn't you DBL?

What a stupid law .

They aren't mine. How many people on here that have found racks shed hunting have got salvage tags? I thought you can't get a salvage tag for antlers. Guess I ll get rid of the picture if its going to cause a stir.

Hey it doesn't bother me any. If the deer has been dead for a while I think that it is pretty easy to figure out that is was found dead. But I guess if people want to make a big deal out of it I would take the picture off also.

I wasn't meaning to rain on anybodys parade, I just wanted to point out what the law is and the possible consquencies. I have picked up skulls years ago, but with the laws and fines what they are today a simple innocent mistake could cost a person big time and it just isn't worth it any more. Whether we agree with the laws or not and even if it is plain that the deer has been dead a long time it is still a violation and it seems that a lot of people don't realize that. I am not trying to stir anything up, but it seems obvious that the people who found this head didn't know it was against the law for them to cut off the head and take it home no matter how big it is or for what reason. Just an illadvised attempt to help that's all.

I dont know many hunters that are gonna let a large rack just sit and rot out in the woods. Id dare to say that over 90% of us are gonna run home with it like a cat with a big piece of meat.
