one night, and life around a deer carcass

This is the 3rd. deer carcass I have found over the last 10 days. It's only around 200 yards from my house, in the timber. I set a camera on it sunday, and sat 100 yards away watching it the last couple nights, hopeing to kill one of the big coyotes thats been running deer. Twenty minutes after changeing the card this mangey male came in.

I watched it monday afternoon untill 6:00, doing some rabbit distress and coyote vocals at last light with no action. 30 minutes after I left the party started, I never changed the time on the camera back at daylight savings time, soon it will be right again, like my truck. The bobcat seems to rule, while the possum stands lookout.

It looks like the bobcat sliced the coyotes neck there.

Bobcat really tears into him here.

And now comes the boss. There is no doubt who rules the woods here.

This is one tough skunk. He ruled a large bobcat and at least 6 different big coyotes all night, only letting them eat while he napped. They all are gone an hour before light.Funny thing is, he must not need to spray for respect. I was up changeing the card, and trying an ambush at first light, and there was no skunk smell. I dont know how to kill these coyotes. They stay deep in the timber all day, and only come out at night. Looks like we may get snow this weekend, with the full moon. Gonna need to clean out my freezer and camp out at night it looks like. Any other ideas?

That is simply amazing man!! Love those pictures! I cannot beleive how brave that skunk is. I think that would be a good bet in the snow on a full moon night. Too bad there wasn't a little more carcass left. I would go find a road kill LOL

Boy, you were'nt kidding about having alot of em. With "the rut" coming, you should see them in the daytime. From your pm and posts I'm thinking these guys have been shot at before. I still know of someone who would come do some shootin for ya. Maybe hit the casino depending on how a shoot goes.............ck

You need to make like 5 or 6 dirt hole trap sets in like a 50 yard radius of that thing.. find a good size rock or something that sticks out and put some lure on it

Yup! Nothin like a hole in the ground, with food in it to get their attention.........ck:way:

I would throw some traps out there too...could try the night shift first and see what happens. An awesome series of pics tho! wow! Video would have been really cool!

Wow! I can't believe how many warthogs you have there! And was that a cheetah too? Amazing!

But for real man, cool pics! I'd go with the trap idea too.

I could look at stuff like that all day! Amazing what takes place under the cover of darkness! I would be just as concerned about the large bobcat as the yotes when it comes to predation. Unfortunately the trapping season has closed and your only option now is to shoot the yotes. I would play the wind and do no calling. These big dogs have obviously been to that rodeo before. I agree that gathering road kill or locker scraps to keep the site busy is a good idea. I read a post on the Predator Masters forum about how they make "baitsicles" by throwing fish and deer scraps in a 5 gallon bucket. Then they fill the buckets up with water and set in their freezer. Then they dump these big blocks of ice-bait within range of a good ambush point. The animals are unable to drag them off and they take days or weeks to thaw under the right conditions. With the coyote breeding season getting underway I bet your daytime movement will increase as time goes on. Hope to see more pics! :way:

Skully - That's genious! Definitely going to have to give that a try... only trouble is we've got 40's in the forecast for a long time.

WOW!! What a pic sequence! Great stuff!

I agree, set your cam to video mode, that will be even better. We had some 10 second video clips last year from a forzen carcass that were pretty neat, and although we had a good number of visits from all the neighboring critters, you have the whole animal kingdom there at once. :D

 what a circus, awesome pics, take the night shift and some buckshot and have a turkey shoot, good luck.
