Oops, I did it....

...again! Went to the local KMart to see if they sold archery targets. Also, a friend works there in Sporting Goods and I figured we could shoot the breeze. Anyhow, they didn't have any targets, but they had a Gorilla Stand on clearance, half off. Kind of an impulse buy, but I've been looking for a "cheap" stand to leave in a certain spot. It has a nylon mesh seat. This sounds like it might be a good idea, as it won't be too wet or cold. Anybody have one of these stands?

I hope to use screw in steps, taking out the bottom screw in steps to keep people out of it. One thing that bothers me is that it is a walnut tree and I hate to use screw ins. Might have to use my Lone Wolf sticks, but that somewhat defeats the stealth approach I was hoping for; just being able to sneak in and immediately climb in. Anybody have comments on strap steps? Maybe I could use them on the top, getting to them with a Lone Wolf stick section.

I couldn't stop there, as I didn't have a target yet. I went to the local sporting goods store and bought "The Block" and a new hunting/fishing license. I bought "The Block" as I wanted it to be portable. It fits nicely in the trunk of the Honda, right next to the Matthews. Already took them out for a test drive.

I've got the booty stashed so my wife won't see it, but the credit card bill will bust me!

I was at the farm supply store today and got 2.5 gallons of generic roundup- when I came home I said- "Birdseed has really gone up!"

Matter of fact, I did fill the bird feeder today, but there was already two bags of bird food in the basement.

I'm half way out of the woods though. I took the sale sticker off the stand so that I could look it up on the internet. By mistake, I left it laying next to the computer.

My wife, with her keen eye, immediately picked out the big red word SALE and asked what it was. So I came clean on that purchase. At least I'll have less explaining to do when the credit card bill comes.

Now it is just a matter of that turkey tag I'm going to buy......

I agree with O-hawkeye on the hanging, I have four gorilla hang ons. Have been very happy with them until last fall.

It seemed when the temp was below 10 degrees, I could not get mine to stop creeking, that was very agitating on all day sits. Otherwise they perform flawlessly. Also have been happy with several Bear River, but I cant find them anymore.

Received my first Lone Wolf for Christmas, cant wait to see how it performs.

Gotta love the wife and kids for that.

I like the Gorillas too, we have about 10 different varieties of stands on the farm and they are just as solid as any of them, very sturdy in the tree and easy to hang. As far as the stealthy approach, I have used the API straps before and they seem to do the trick, easy to remove the bottom two or 3 and that way you don't have to screw steps into the tree.

JNR- It is also easier to explain "farm things", "fence supplies", "deductions", etc when the bill is from Orschleins, TSC, or the feed store.

Randy-
Gorilla stands rock! Have not tested the mesh version out yet, but all their other hang on models are outstanding and pretty much all we use.

A big thumbs down on the strap on steps, they seem to twist and can be hard to get on. I just dont trust them.

You will be happy with your block target
