Plant with Rye?

Due to the drought, some of my clover plots have turned to weeds. Plan on planting rye in them when I see a rain coming in Sept. what else can I plant with rye later in fall? Rape worthless deer here ignore it. Winter wheat maybe? Thanks.

Lots options. More clover- combo of whites & one leafier red. Radish. Winter peas (windham or Austrian). Alfalfa & for legume - that's almost "drought proof" - get grazing or slow growing if get alfalfa. Oats (Jerry or plot spike or any oats). Etc.

I would do rye & clover. Rye for this fall grazing and a cover crop for your replacement clover next spring.
