We are planning a trip to south dakota to shoot some prairie dogs the first week in september. Anybody got any advice on good locations or places that don't charge an armload to shoot?

Depending on how big of a town you get on, be prepared to shoot....a lot.
Start talking to anybody you can that may have a relative or friend out there. You may be able to get yourself on some private land for free. It may be taking a chance, but just go out there and start talking to local people, I bet you can get pretty good leads pretty quick doing it that way, but it's not a sure thing.

That's what we are planning on doing. Going out and talking to people and knocking on doors.

We go to Highmore every year. Its about 45 min east of Pierre. Plenty of people willing to let you on there ground to shoot dogs. We have never had any problems finding a place around there. If you knock on a few doors the folks up there are pretty helpful in pointing you in the right direction.
