question on Cultipacker

Seems like quite a few of you on the management forums use cultipackers.. It seems like farmers dont really use them anymore.. Why are they so big with food plotters? advantages and disadvatages to a harrow? Thanks!

I think seed depth is the key with most seeds.. grain drills and seed plants put the seeds at certain depths.. with a broadcast type plot, clover for example, only needs to be about 1/4inch deep.. if you use a harrow, chances are most of your seed will be too deep or laying on top with no seed to soil contact at all.. use a cultipacker to ensure good seed to soil contact and on some you can adjust the weight of the packer for different depths.. pack before broadcasting and pack after
