Rut Predictions

Field Service

New Member
Trying to finalize my vacation schedule. Any predictions on the peak with the moon phase and all of that. I have a hole in my shedule from Nov 12th - 18th. Wondering if I should move some time around to fill it?

Thanks, Jody

The only rut pediction I have is that I will have killed a buck before it starts.

I am banking on an earlier rut than last year. We heading to KS the last week of OCT. hoping to capitalize on an earlier hunters moon this year. (OCT 26).

In eastern Iowa last year there was great activity the second weekend in Oct...almost a mini rut...the last week of Oct I was fishin at Lake of the Woods and all my buddies killed their bucks during that week. By the time I was able to get back in the stand last year (Nov. 7th) the deer in my area were pretty much tending.

So no fishing for me this year, I'm taking the last week of Oct off and hunting from Oct.27th to Nov. 3rd. I'm pretty pumped about it.

The full moon is Oct. 26th
half moon on the nov. 1st
no moon on nov. 9th,
half moon on nov. 17th
full moon on nov.24th

If you were using the moon phase and past production dates I would take off Nov.2nd-8th or 12th-18th.

From my records the in between dates (9th-11th) seem to be lock down mode. In years past it's been on 12th-13th too for me.

My experience w/ either week is usually I see alot more deer in the first week of Nov. but in the mid month range I see less deer but more mature bucks on there feet.

Good luck w/ your decision.

TT

October 29 to Nov 5 seems to be good every year for me irregardless of the full moon.

If you are a moon follower, the 26th is the full moon so that time period should also be good this year if you follow that sort of stuff.

i dont really buy into the whole moon stuff, the rut is triggered by decreasing light levels, not all this moon hocus pocus. regardless of hte moon, you're probably money if you're hunting nov. 5-12. should be peak rutting conditions in iowa judging by past experience
