Scent Blocker and Gun Season

For those of you who have Scent Blocker clothing do you use it during the gun season you hunt? I decided to give the Dream Season suit a try this year - first piece of scent control clothing I've owned. I bought it primarily for bowhunting but wasn't sure if anyone else used it during gun season or kept it strictly for archery season. Obviously the closeness of the shot isn't as much of an issue during gun season but didn't know what everyoned else thought. I've noticed that on some tv shows it didn't look like some hosts went to the extreme for scent control. Any thoughts?
 
Yes...wear it and take all the scent control measures you would as if you were bowhunting.

Regardless of the weapon of choice...you still have to beat their nose to get a shot!

I guess it depends. If your going on deer drives I would not wear it because you will be on the move and sweating. If you are in a stand wear it.
 
I agree 100% with Ghost.... I always take the same scent control cautions while gun hunting. You will give yourself an edge that many gun hunters overlook. It still amazes me how many gun hunters don't even think about the wind direction when entering the woods for a hunt.

If its cold, the scent lock stuff is worthless. I would freeze in mine. Most of the stuff isnt made for cold weather, like you said, its marketed for bowhunters. I wear my artic carharts head to toe. I could layer up with the scent lok, but I feel like a big puff ball out there and its to hard to hang stands. When Im sitting with a gun I am always setting up for a good 50+ yard shot or better. Seems like I dont have to worry about deer winding me as much with my gun setups. I am defintely guilty of being relaxed about my scent control with a gun. I would rather be comfortable than cold, just use the wind and you will be fine. Probably wont need to worry about the weather during shotgun, but you never know.
 
Where it, I can't tell you how many times I have shot a deer at 15 yards with a gun that snuck in on me or came running, they get just as close when you have a gun many times and any help you can get from scent control will be a plus
 
so Fred.....does Carhart make Artic Dress shoes now? I think if I recall correctly your ML kill was dond in dress shoes.

I'm not real impressed with the Scent Blocker "Outfitter" set i recently bought. It is too noisy for my liking and I probably will not wear it for bowhunting at all.

Matter of fact I may even return it. The velcro wrist straps for tighting the coat to your wrists are designed backwards. When you draw the velcro wrist strap catches the coat material around your neck and you get the classic velcro rip sound "not good". As an old tradionalist I should have know better than buying this suit. Velcro=Junk! I did not forsee that problem, but did notice that the clothing seemed rather noisy, but was assured that once washed that noise went away...of course, it did not! If any clothing item is noisy to start it will remain this way. I guess I am a slow learner

as i remember being convinced of this 5 to 7 years ago with a certain new gortex outfit I bought. I kept that one and 7 years later its still noisy!

The Scent Blocker dream season set seems to use a different material and is not as noisy, but the velcro straps still are placed backwards on the wrists and can catch your clothing when drawing....buyer beware.
 
Oh, and I might add i'm still not sold on the science of all this scent elimination clothing, but I figure it can't hurt

Oh, one more thing, the set i described above also has a faint wiff of a chemical smell that does not go away, even with several washings with "Scent Blocker" Carbon cloths soap.

That's great info DOR. I'm not in the market to buy one, but I always like to hear gear reviews from those in the field! Another reason why I've told myself to never buy and then wear in the field ANYTHING that has velcro on it! I even took the velcro straps off my Lone Wolf sticks.
 
The key to that hunt was the wind Ruddly. Deer are stupid without their noses, they dont care what you are wearing.

I'd have to agree with you DOR about the velcro. The Dream Season material is very quiet but the velcro is annoying - I suppose it provides the most adjustability. And I'm not 100% sold on the carbon theory but I'm one of those guys that couldn't help myself to try it. Heck, I even bought the scent block chapstick

. Everything I read said if you don't do the scent control thing 100% don't waste the $$$.

I love this site. You never know where a topic will end up. Definitely enjoy all the information shared on this site - I'm a better hunter because of it.
