Someone told me that a S/SE wind will shut down the rut. Don't know if it's true or not, but Sat I saw only 1 doe. Anyone else heard this or had any success this weekend with the strong winds?
Im not sure if the S SE winds have anything to do with shutting down the rut but on saturday i saw 9 and rattled in a big 8 point from the field behind me it seemed like the rut was in full swing to me reguardless of the wind.
I would think that a South or SE wind simply means warmer weather in the area which could cause deer to be more nocturnal. Not many cold fronts come thru with a south wind. That's my take on it anyway.
The wind has been howling here for the past couple of days. More wind forecasted through Wednesday. Don't know what effect it's having on the deer, but today was my first all day sit where I saw no deer at all. The rut is supposedly in full swing, but I haven't been seen much of anything lately. I think it has more to do with the place I'm hunting than anything else.
Interesting thoughts about the south winds. I can honestly say I can't remember ever having a south wind. It's been north for a few days and has brought the cold, low of -8, high of zero. brrrr
