southern iowa anamosa area

I am heading down to the anamosa iowa area. I have never hunted in southern iowa and i was wondering if the anamosa area is a good area. i am going with a friend to his granparents who own a big group of woods. i was wondering if the rut is going good in that area and what to expect. i am pretty pumped to go hopefull i wil get lucky and see some good ones.

The Anamosa area is a good area.I wouldn't really call it southern Iowa though.In my opinion the rut in "southern"Iowa hasn't really kicked off good yet.The bigger bucks I see and am getting on cameras are still at night.The weather has just been to hot.The last couple frosty morning have been pretty good.Seeing a lot of 2 1/2 and 3 1/2s running does around but I don't think the does are ready yet.The bucks certainly are.

Anamosa is good area but not what I would consider southern Iowa. More comparable to southern Iowa compared to north central Iowa though.

My wife's father spent five years in Anamosa. Now that's another story. Don't think he got much time to hunt.
