SW IA Forester Recommendation

Anyone have a recommendation for a forester to use in far SW IA or NW MO? It looks like Sarah Barney in Riverton is the closest DNR forester, anyone had good or bad experiences? What about a private option? We are about to close on a new piece that is mostly timber. Any thoughts on "first things to do"? Our other farms are mostly ag and strips of river bottom, marsh, spotty timber. This is mostly all timber and a little new to us. It is already enrolled in the Forest Reserve program by the previous owner.

What are the goals and projects involved. You'd want a private forester if there is a logging aspect. If not, Lindsay Barney is a great resource.

I've worked with Lindsay Barney on some projects. Very knowledgable and good to work with. Draws up good detailed plans with clear instructions. She is available to reach out for any questions etc as well. Very good experience.

Thanks guys! We likely aren't looking to log anytime soon, the previous owners did a select cut before listing. It is what it is. I'm mainly looking at overall forest condition, species make up, tips on how to improve and maintain, maybe an EQIP contract next year for some TSI, cedar management, etc.

What about getting a tax basis done on the timber value? I've heard that is something to have done when purchasing a block of timber. Any experience here?

You want any cost share for improving? Start there.
I do think if u asked lindsay to call if she gets a free day- if u r flexible - bet she gets u in.
We for sure can get u pointed in right direction. This is my bread & butter but this isn’t too bad for complexity.
