Swaging tool ?

Does anybody know where I can get one to use for crimping cable on a stand that Curly made in Metals Shop. They are expensive and I only need to swag four loops for the support cable of the platform. If it was going to be used for something other than holding hunter I may just try a hammer and chisel but I want it done right.

Mike. If you know anyone that works for a manufacture you might want to ask them. Word of advice though, make sure the tool and swag match, and the swag and cable match. An improper crimp is as bad as a hammer and chisel. If you have trouble finding one give me the measurements and I could make some up and send them.

I make my own stands, bought my crimper at Lowe's for around $20.00.
After checking with a few tool retailers, I was under the impression you couldn't purchase one for less than $80.00. I'm guessing that is what you found also?
Got lucky and happened to come across them at Lowe's.

Shredder is right on, make sure your cable, ferrule, and tool match up. The tool will come capable of multiple ferrule sizes. When you buy your ferrules, make sure to buy the packages that come with the large and small ferrules. The large will accept 2 crimps and the small is a safety that accepts one crimp on the tail of the cable. You end up with 2 ferrules on each cable loop. I would suggest 1/8" stainless cable and ferrules.

Good luck.

I have been to Home Depot and Menards, I just gave up and never tried Lowes. He is using 1/8 inch stainless cable.

Moose or Shedder, who ever it was

, thanks for the offer but these need to be built around the platform and upright.

no problem Woody.
RBB. I get mistaken for Shredder all the time. Other than his bald head and being built low to the ground I can see the confusion.......

OK I now have a good used swaging tool. They had two at Lowes that they appeared to be using in their cable area(some what used) and I asked if they would sell one. I was given the clearence price of $15. If anybody ever needs to crimp a ferrel on a cable anywhere in central Iowa I am the guy. I will post a picture of the boys new home brewed stand. It's pretty nice.

Thanks RBB for putting me on the right trail.

The stand in the background is one Zach traded some sheds with Shovel Buck for. It was used as a model for the one in the forground. It really turned out nice and the design is very comfortable. The seat swings up and out of your way if you wish to stand and it has a great foot rest.

Look good, they are somewhat similar to mine. One tip, if you weld your chain and hook on 1/3 of the way down from the top of the frame, the stand will actually seat itself into the tree. Kinda like a wedge. One good stomp and they are as solid as a rock and I mean solid. Mine are modeled after the Screaming Eagles, which yours look to be also. They claim to be the strongest stands in the world, you might remember thier old AD where they hung a VW Beetle from one.
