Taxidermy wait time.

A good buddy shot a buck behind my cabin Nov 14th 2023.
Brought in in to get mounted next day.
So, it's pushing 2 years now. He did call about a month ago and the taxidermy said it will done " soon".

I'm no taxidermist but there can be NO WAY it should take 2 years to mount a deer head!!

For you fellas that get your heads mounted, what are you seeing for a head to be done?
I've had quite a few done and most were in the 9 months / year time frame.

And if any taxidermy on here, can you explain why / what it is that takes so long?

By the way, he's 83 and this buck was special to him. 20231114_093101.jpg

2 years is ridiculous. I'd go get it, done or not.

The guy I go to - if I've started turkey hunting the following spring before he's done, that's on the slow side for him. Helps getting in before all the gun season deer of course. I believe he has a couple sons that help out too though.

A year would catch most guys I would think.

1 year. If they can't finish what they took in before the next season, they will continuously get further behind

6 months to a year seems to be the norm from what I read usually. Earlier in the season you bring a deer in the sooner you'll get it back. Ive had 3 mounts done, they've ranged from about 4 months to 8 months.

2 years and not back yet is nuts. I would think they should stop taking on so many projects if they are beyond a year IMO.

Most good taxidermists are a year, give or take a little depending on how they operate. Is this guy full time or is taxidermy just a side gig? That can change things too.

I'd think that if the guy was reputable and that good/busy that he really had that long a wait he'd state that up front. Might be worth a call to the CO of his county asking if he's herd anything about this taxi.
