thinking about going fishing today

has anyone been fishing the farm ponds yet? thinking about going and trying to catch a nice mess of crappie today.
 
A friend of mine has been fishing some farm ponds for the last couple weekends and has been slamming the crappie. Caught over 200 so far between him and his boys. Catching some nice ones too. Most went back in the water, but about 40 are headed for the frying pan. Sounds like they were pretty shallow too. Less than 10 feet of water.
 
I'd bet they're biting right now, question is: Can you catch them on plastics yet or do you need live bait? I don't really target them much anymore but this early sometimes I needed minnows or just minnow heads to entice a good bite. Good luck!
 
Crappies are going nuts right now. Cats are too, especially in ponds. take pix!
