I'd encourage you to get a forester to mark TSI for you. This will guide you on what is marketable, or safe to take. Then if you have the time, resources to self perform then go for it.

Agree with the above, go to town. Deer will return quickly.

I think it is a good idea to involve a forester, but...just realize that some foresters will have a bent towards better timber, some will have a bent towards better deer hunting/habitat, some may blend both concepts well...but some may not.

Whatever your goals and expectations are, be sure to communicate them well. Good luck.
