Too early for BFO?

This will be my first time planting oats. I have heard that if they are planted too early they become unattractive. We are coming up on Sept 1st. Is it too early?

I'd get them in now. I always look for Sept 1 or the week before.

Anytime mid August to early Sept. should work fine

I planted some August 5th and some August 11 with very good results. I waited until Sept. 1st last year and I didnt feel I got enough growth out of them so I put them in a little earlier this year. However, I did get VERY lucky with the amount of rain we got right after I planted them.

DH, We found if it was not grazed heavily and allowed to get over approx. 8-10" they didn't care for them as much as the fresh stuff. They ate it but the smaller plots that were grazed harder were preferred. If it get's to long I would clip it.
