Trespasser Question

Yesterday I was on the only property I have been given permission from the owner to hunt checking a trail cam and found a treestand put up by someone other than me. I am the only person that has permission to hunt here, but there is a rented house on the property. Surprisingly enough, the new stand is only about 200 yards from the house. I also have a stand up not more than 100 yards from this area. How should I handle this situation? I don't want the trespasser to get upset and steal my stand. Last year I got into an argument with the renters of the house about them trespassing and they blew me off and kept hunting. Here in MO, I believe you can't be cited for trespassing unless you are caught on the property. Right now I think I'm going to post No Hunting signs around the stand and put a note on the stand itself asking the owner of the stand to please remove it from the property. Should I threaten legal action on the first note? Any advice is helpful. Thanks.

he may have more control than you??

if he rents the property

I'm assuming they just rent the house and not the property. I would get in touch with the landowner and ask if he has given the renters permission to hunt. If not maybe the two of you could go have a chat with the renters.

I would this route also.

The renters of the house only rent the house, no land. There is also a crop lease on the property and we have had problems with the farmer giving permission to others to hunt too. But I have asked the land owner and no one has hunting rights as part of the lease agreements.

i would think it would be better if the landowner was the one telling them to take the stand down. if you do talk to them, try to keep it as diplomatic as possible.

maybe, you could type up a "contract of permission" stating that you have exclusive permmission to hunt the property for the fall '07 season, and have the landowner sign it. would make for a little concrete proof that you have permission and he doesn't

put a thumb tack on the seat of the stand and do it everytime you go there, sneek in the house and hide the tv remote, you know really sick stuff like that!!! just kiddin i would def. talk to the landowner, his land his legal action, just get him involved and it should work lots more smoothly for you!!
