I think the salesman was confusing triclopyr with tordon.I was in a big box Ag. store this weekend, looking to buy Triclopyr, as we were cleaning up some invasives in the timber, via a stump cut treatment. The salesman didn't advise it, saying it would remain in soil and kill our hard woods. Thoughts?
Yup, Tordon can move through the roots to non desirable trees. Triclopyr comes in a few varieties (water based vs oil based) in differing strengths also. Water based is better for hack and squirt and oil based better basal bark I'm told. I've tried oil based (the '4' version) on hack and squirt and it failed, only stunting the tree not killing it. These were hackberries done in late July during a dry period. Get the 3 version for cut stump.I think the salesman was confusing triclopyr with tordon.
If you keep it agitated it can be ok. Would only used water for foliar spray. for cut stump or basal bark..... diesel for sure.Does water mix "good enough" with the 4 version?
