What are the chances next year?

Needless to say, I was/am not a fan of the 3 day Thanksgiving Doe season. My question is: What are the chances of this season happening again next year or ever?

I really have no idea but once something is implemented I think it will be harder to take it away. I only see this season staying and the rifle season growing into something very bad. I am a bit worried here.

How would the IDNR even know if it was a success this year or not?

Let's just say I only heard a couple of gun shots all weekend as I bowhunted.

They did probably sell a few tags and increase revenue though.....

How many of you guys hunted this early doe season?

i also don't agree with the 3 day doe hunt. esspecially when people can shoot a ton of does during all the other gun seasons. my dads bow hunting was effected by this season and he had a lot of people hunting in his area that don't normaly hunt there but they didn't want to mess with the land they normaly hunt. he said there were hunters everywhere in guthrie county. so i guess it is ok to mess with other people and the last part of the 1st bow season. i know that they had sold around 48,000 tags for this season about 2 weeks ago. i hope this isn't going to continue next year but i don't think they would give up the revenue this season brought in.

I dont care for gun shots when I'am out bow hunting.Heard only heard a few shots on friday afternoon, and did not get a chance to hunt saturday.Hunted sunday and the last two hours of the day they must have been doing a big push about a 1/4 of mile from where I was hunting. They must have shot about 30 times.Sounded like the first day of the regular gun season, plus trucks running up and down the roads the whole time. This was in southern warren county.

Don't plan on it going away. The whole concept of it being harder to stop once it was implemented is true. Until someone or some group can put a stop to the Iowa Department of Non-Typical Revenue's questionable methods we are stuck with it. The biggest problem comes from the fact that the largest voting bases in our state come from the metropolitan areas and college towns. You can imagine that these people have little concern as to "rural" issues such as hunting. That is unless they are getting the tree hugging feel good people together to raise money for birth control for the deer in their rich sububurbs! We need a better set of checks and balances in our state goverment. Who watches and evaluates the actions of the DNR? Shouldn't we have a say in any of this? Does anyone know who directly supervises this department? Is it Vilsack?

I heard alot of shooting going on, I hunted it. I hunted EM so I enjoyed the chance to gun hunt since I can't hunt a shotgun season. Tags in my county and surrounding counties sold out about 2 weeks earlier than what they usually do. So no I doubt it will not go away. I am an avid bowhunter, not as much as alot on here, but more than most. I seen nothing wrong with the season as a BOWHUNTER, other than EM we still had nearly two months of the woods to ourselves. From other stand points yes the season has wholes in the idea, but I will not argue time from bowhunters as a point against it.

I agree 100% with deadeye. This whole thing, including the rifle season, could turn into a very bad thing. Even maybe a buck rifle season, which I think should never ever happen in Iowa, let alone a doe rifle season!!!

It sounded like WW III around here this weekend. The usual sounds, bang bang bang bang, vroooooom, bang bang bang bang bang, vroooooom! A lot of lead went somewhere. I was bowhunting, or trying to.

I doubt it increased any revenue or killed any extra does in alot of counties because they sell out every year anyway. They just sold out 2 weeks earlier this year. Because of that, I think its a totally pointless season in areas that normally sell out and should be restricted to areas that didnt sell out under the old system. Gee, that might actually encourage people that like this season to go where the problem lies?!?!?!?

i read in the iowa game and fish, that willie suchy hopes that the thanksgiving hunt takes out 5000 does, antlerless tags in all other regular seasons, increase by 10,000 killed, and the late antlerless rifle addition anther 5000

if these "magic" numbers aren't met, i'm sure we will have these retarded season additions next year, and probably some new, even dumber additions

I talked to the IDNR on Monday to tell them my thoughts on the doe season and they appreciated me calling but said i would need to talk to brad zaun (local legislator) and tell him what people think. the IDNR said that this season isnt based on revenue but on political pressure on down-sizing the deer population. but if they made a lot more money this year with that season why would they ever get rid of that revenue? i am a avid bowhunter and i would rather them sell doe tags for $5 a tag and not have this special season or late season hunts. how many bucks were poached last weekend? how many will be shot during the late season because they have shed their antlers? i heard one dnr offical say that a lot of the counties in northern iowa had deer populations undercontrol but they still had this season. i know that they limited tags but that isn't helping things where the problem is. what do you guys/girls think?

Why is that we never hear who this political pressure is being applied by? Is there anywhere they we can find voting records that indicate who is supporting such actions? How much political pressure can the Farm Bureau apply anyway? If this is the kind of response that people are getting that is too bad. Isn't it damn ironic that WHO TV and KCCI get informed as to what is going on with this stuff but kind of after the fact. Why should the DNR be allowed to railroad public policy?

In my county we had 3 busts on bucks being killed. This is what I've heard anyways. In my eyes there are other ways to get rid of the population other than adding seasons.
