Goggle earth is a cool site, not every piece of Iowa ground will be on the most detailed scale. You do have to download their program, but again, very fun to play with.
I think the one on this site is top notch and free. i tried google's free trial one time and didn't care for it at all. I thought the detail was not that up to par.
Just go to new stuff at the top right, Click on iowa aerial photos, and 1:24 topo should be what you are looking for if topo iswhat you want.
The way I use it is find the piece of ground you want with the aerial photos then click on 1:24 topo. Once you have done this just click on the back and forth button on the tool bar at the top and you can figure out exactly how that aerial photo actually lays out.
It works great and most importantly it's free.
