What kind of binoculars do you hunt with?

Yesterday I was cleaning up my turkey hunting gear and getting it put away for another year. As I was cleaning my binoculars and wiping off the lens I got to thinking about the various manufactures of binos.

I thought this poll might be interesting?
 
I rarely carry binocs while hunting. If it is far enough away that I need binocs, I'm probably not going to get a shot so why torment myself looking? When it is in range, I'll know whether I want to shoot or not without binocs. It seems like I'm lugging enough gear around without them.

I voted for the brand I have and don't carry. Maybe if I'd paid big bucks for them I'd feel guilty about leaving them at home. ;)
 
I dont leave the truck without them! one of the most vaulable tools i have!

If i see a distant buck that is border line shooter, id like to size him up before i call to him. id hate to run the risk of spooking a deer im not going to shoot.

plus im with Nanny, its fun just to get a closer look!
 
I consider binoculars for hunting and polaroids for fishing absolutely essential items.... 2nd only to a weapon or rod. If I forget either I stop, turn around and get them. I would feel naked without this gear. Thats my 2 cents anyway.

I just bought a pair of Nikon Dream Season 8x36 ATB. $100 less than what cabelas wants for them. Im pumped. I have used the cheapy fold up pocket ones on and off for a few years and have become more and more mad everytime, becuase of the poor quality. I hope that is all over with now.

10X42 agreed....most versatile binoculars out there. A little heavy for some, but worth the weight in gold.
 
I bought a pair of Nikon Monarchs in 8.5X56. I bought them because of the huge objective lens and the light they gather. When I look through them at dusk and take them away from my eyes its like walking in to a dark room, my pupils have to adjust to the low ambient light from the bright magnified light. These suckers really really gather light. Only problem is the wieght, 40.2 ounces. I didn't go with the 10X42 because the FOV is smaller and I doubt if they gather light nearly as well. They weigh in at about half the 8.5X56 at 21.1 ounces. There are times however, that I wished I had 10X instead of 8.5X and the 21.1 oz instead of the 40.2 oz.

I have a pair of Nikon 10x50 bino's in my truck at all times. I also usually have my spotting scope in my pick-up. I do a lot of scouting from a distance.

I have found "long eyes" to be a very vaulable tool for both deer and turkey hunting.
 
A couple of questions:

For those of you who answered “other” in this poll what brand of Binos do you use? Send me a PM if you wish.

Also, I am very surprised that no one is using the Pine Ridge series of binos from Cabelas?

I have the same in the 10 x 56 and they are a pain because of the size and weight but they are awesome in the low light and I use them way more then my spotting scope.
 
i use ziess ,only because they were my grandpa`s when he hunted 20 years ago. (8x42) they still grab an amazing amount of light for as old as they are. when i up grade - nikon monarchs 10x42
