What Life Is All About

Took my second to oldest out on Sat. before Easter on only his second turkey hunt.

His last turkey hunt was quite a few years ago when he was 11.

I sat up in a place that I had seen birds a few weeks ago.

The birds sounded off at first light but shut up right when they hit the ground.

I knew approx. where they would come out.

I saw 5 hens and then came the Tom. He was by himself but was following the hens.

They started to move away from us and I called 3 hens my way The other two went the other way.

Then they all went the other way

The whole time my boy was saying I did not know turkeys were so huge.

We watched as the Tom received his last lovin while I was explaining to my boy what was going on (sex 101 ).

I pulled on the string to get my hen DSD to move up and down a little (turkey moving up and down invention no thanks to hardcore :D )
The birds just milled around and then slowly worked our way.

When the hens got within 30 yards two came running right in and picked on the hen.

The Tom was slightly aggravated but was going to sidestep us at 30 yards.

Well we had the Mossberg with 3 1/2" #6 shot for just the sidestep.

When he hit 25 he put it on him and he turned and he let him have it.
Down like a sack of potatoes.

My boy looked at me and said did you see bad I was shaking. :D
He is hooked.:way:

Tale of the tape. 23.5 pounds, 3/4" spurs, 8 inch bird.
I love them 2 year olds I will take what I can get for a first timer.
