It might be a once in a lifetime chance to SAVE a deer's life.

I'm done with this one,...I could care less what each person would do in terms of letting it bother me, I know what I'd do.

I would shoot it and put it down. Get ahold of the CO and see about getting a salvafge tag for the 2nd deer. Most CO's are going to give you one. I have a cousin who was in this exact scenario about 3 years ago and the CO told him to shoot it and he would be there later with the salvage tag. Made a neat mount.
So all of you that think this is un sporting. Walk upon the same creek to find a snoozing buck, lets say 170" stud, lying on a small sand bar 15 yards from the bank, (hypothetical situation) you are going to wake him and let him go then right????

Not even close to the same. That's almost as bad as the analogy of the 100$ bill and buck.

how did this turn from a simple opinion topic, to an arguement...thats why its an opinion. Opinions are like a$$holes, everyone has one! so let them have there own

These types of topics keep forums alive. It's not a huge deal either way to me, because as SASKGUY said it boils down to what YOU feel is right. However, I see no harm in stating why you feel as you do.:way::way:

I know guys who say they will not shoot a bedded buck. That is why I am asking if anyone would consider that non sporting. Simple question.

Saskguy, great posts.

Fair chase is the key here. A bedded buck has every chance to elude you. A locked buck does not.

Here is another recent example of buck that if free'd would be fine IMO.

Strange that I go this email today with this topic being debated . Thought I'd share.

What if a buck was blind in one eye and he came in and the bad eye was toward you would you wait for him to turn to make it more fair chase and sporting?

Stretching Fair Chase there in my opinion. You aren't baiting them, they aren't fenced in, they are still wild free ranging animals. They just fell into a bad circumstance. Don't get me wrong, I respect your opinion, just have my own as well.

Cooter, I typed this same scenario then deleted it, thinking the same thig.

Cooter - As much as I'd like to tell you how ignorant and stupid you are I will take the high road and refrain. It would be a complete waste of my time to explain why you are an idiot, so I won't go there. :)

BTW some of these analogies you guys are throwing out there are just laughable, not even close. :way:

I stand by everything I've said. I don't know if I've came across as a tree hugger with all this, but I assure you I'm not at all. I am a serious deer hunter and I can't believe that if you were a serious deer hunter with a head on your shoulders that you wouldn't see that giving the buck a chance to live is the best thing to do. If I found two good bucks locked up on my farm, one dead, one alive, you can bet your ass I want him to live.

Why wouldn't you try to free them? If the buck doesn't get up and run off, shoot him. What are you out by cutting or shooting an antler to free them? You're out that "trophy" of two bucks locked together. Pretty lame if you ask me. :moon: I know my hunting buddies would say "why the hell didn't you cut them loose?"

If you found a big buck caught in a fence, do you cut the loose or just shoot him?

Also, nobody ever responded if the size of the buck changes what you would do. Would you shoot the buck if he was a 110" 2 1/2 yr old?

Im on here everyday and don't post much. Every once in a while I read something thats just irks the crap out of me, and this is one of those instances. I'll probably take some heat here and I'm not going to respond, I'll just take it and shut my mouth on this topic.:drink1:
