What's up with this deer's leg?

Almost looks like there's no hair on his front left?

Went to the vet for a wound and came out with an Ace bandage and a $500 co-pay

I have seen that when they have been caught in a fence and then get out. I suppose that could also have been from a trap or snare too.

No way a leg hold trap would get that high on the leg, and with Iowa requiring a deer stop on snares, I think it’s doubtful

Definitely agree that it is unlikely to be a regular trap...but while Iowa law requires deer stops, I have overheard people talking about their personal dislike with that requirement and that they build their own snares without them...FWIW.

Pretty sure it's a button buck due to the tarsal glands stained dark? Be nice to see a freak in a couple years.
